Ranch Raised APHA & AQHA Performance Horses

We raise top quality APHA, and AQHA horses. Our horses are the product of years of selective breeding to produce a good boned, good looking athlete with a kind and willing mind that can travel in the mountains, or the show ring with ease.

Our horses are raised in the most natural horse environment possible. Broodmares run in bands with their foals, and the stallion that complements them best. The stallion foal-sits the offspring while the mares graze contentedly. Mares are responsible for their own breeding and the breedup percentage is better than by hand breeding and manipulating hormones.

The foals are born in April and May, as nature intended, when there is warm sunlight and green grass. New grass makes the perfect foaling environment. Newborns are imprinted, and then returned to large pastures where they develop strong bones and muscles from strenuous outings with the other foals.

The weanlings are weaned in October. The mares and foals are stalled for a few days to adjust to the barn routine, the mares are returned to the pasture and kindergarten training begins for the foals.

The foals are haltered, taught to lead, groomed and taught to accept and desire human contact. Once they pass horse kindergarten they are turned out to pasture with a wise old horse to teach them horse manners.

Weanlings are kept close by through their first winter so we can check on them daily, and give them proper nutrition. Come Spring they are gelded, vaccinated, and turned out for a year of horseplay that includes creeks, steep hillsides, rimrock, deer, cattle, elk, coyotes, quail, badger holes, cougar, and whatever else nature has in store. This is a very important developmental year for them, because they are using and developing all their bones and muscles naturally. When we bring them in to start their training, as 2 olds, they are sure-footed athletes, gentle, and easy to start.
